Primary School Floating Teaching Assistant
A St. Mark’s Primary School Floating Teaching Assistant is responsible for providing support to the instructional program under the direction of the classroom teacher and the Head of Primary School. Responsibilities include guiding and supervising students, supporting classroom activities, attending enrichment classes, recess and lunch duties. Perform other duties to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the classroom. The workday hours for this position are 7:30 am to 3:45 pm.
Duties:
- Support all the classroom teachers in the Primary School division as scheduled or on an as- needed basis.
- Assist in facilitating learning experiences with the students through positive and meaningful student interactions including one-on-one support, small group and whole group support.
- Complete clerical and daily tasks assigned by the classroom teacher to maintain the classroom environment and materials.
- Attend faculty meetings, school events and professional growth opportunities as required.
- Assist in creating an effective learning environments. Supervise play areas, classrooms, bathrooms, arrival and dismissal.
- Assist students with snacks, meals, toileting and personal hygiene including diapering.
- Other duties as assigned and requests made by the Head of Primary School, the classroom teacher, or the Head of School.
Required Skills:
- Experience in joyfully guiding children between the ages of 18 months and six years in a school setting.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills necessary for effective team success.
- Associates degree or bachelor’s degree with 3+ years experience working with young children is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment.
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
