Music Teacher
St. Mark’s Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Early Childhood Music Teacher introducing young children, aged 18 months to 6 years old, to the fundamentals of music and who will also contribute to the school day through supplemental Middle School elective instruction and mid-day duties.The Music Teacher should be passionate about the developmental benefits of music for young children, proficient in various instrumental disciplines and capable of creating an engaging, positive learning environment for students across different age groups.
Duties:
- Primary Curriculum Development and Instruction (Ages 18 mon- 6 years):
- Develop, teach and implement an engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate music curriculum focusing on rhythm, pitch, movement, and musical exploration and with the principles of the Kodály method in mind.
- Prepare and lead students in school performances and seasonal presentations including the annual Primary School Christmas Pageant.
- Support weekly Primary School Chapel with piano accompaniment, lead song choices, and teach songs in class.
- Manage the classroom effectively, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Collaborate with the fine arts teachers to coordinate schedules, events, and resources.
- Supplemental Middle School Elective Instruction (grades 5-8)
- Develop, teach and implement 2 instrumental Elective classes for Middle School students each trimester that meets the school’s strategic program goals.
- Motivate and guide students toward achieving technical proficiency and musical expression.
- Support fully middle school musical performances, school assemblies and other Arts events, including role as musical director, rehearsal management, instrument management and other duties needed.
- Duties: Perform lunch, recess or carpool duties as assigned by Division Head.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field
- Certification in Kodály methodology or training in the Kodály method.
- Prior experience teaching music to young children, preferably in an early childhood or elementary school setting.
- Proficient musicianship skills, including vocal and instrumental abilities.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with young children, parents, and colleagues and to manage a classroom efficiently.
