Primary & Lower School Permanent Substitute
At St. Mark’s the Primary & Lower School Permanent Substitute is an important position in support of our Primary and Lower School students and faculty. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to provide classroom coverage under the direction of the Lower School Division Head. Priority will be given to our youngest students who fall under Texas Department of Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing Guideline Requirements. The Permanent Substitute must be comfortable working with children ages 2 years to 10 years old. Duties include substitute teaching for full and partial days, as well as providing classroom relief when needed for meetings and special projects. At times, the Permanent Substitute may also be involved in targeted pull-out instruction with individual or small groups of students and duties such as recess and lunch.
Duties:
- Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum provided by the Lead Teacher.
- Maintains an organized and engaging classroom environment
- Implements activities assigned to accomplish academic and curricular goals
- Maintains technology skills required for classroom and planning purposes
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment provided by the Lead Teacher
- Maintains appropriate classroom supervision for young children, guiding and redirecting their behavior as needed
- Able to successfully pass the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing background check and maintain required annual training hours.
- Participates in orientation and training specifically for the Primary two-year-old program in order to implement developmentally appropriate practices and to follow regulated licensing classroom procedures and processes.
- Supervises play areas, the restrooms, lunch and dismissal on a regular basis
Other Duties:
- Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources, and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
- Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Lower School
- Works in a sometimes highly energetic environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
